Digital Camera Ratings

The average consumer that is looking for a digital camera is inundated with information and choices available to them. Everyone uses their digital cameras for different reasons and has different priorities when it comes to reproducing their images. Fortunately, to help us to fit the digital camera to our needs we can use digital camera ratings. Using these ratings we can better select a camera that will suit our abilities.

Consumer guides (both magazine and online) are a good resource to help make some sense out of all the features and the marketing. These various consumer editorials will have ratings for the cameras in terms of complexity, ease of use, pricing, value, performance, and more.

As you look over the different ratings for the various cameras such as Canon, Nikon, Minolta, and Pentax, take the time to take some notes or even put some notes and pros and cons on a simple spreadsheet to help you keep all the information that is pertinent to you well organized... particularly making note of the overall rating of the camera.

Also make note of the experience level of the camera; whether it is best suited for the novice, hobbyist, more advanced, or professional line. This is important to know and to match to whatever your aspirations are for your photographs. For instance, you may be a complete novice yet still know that you want to learn more and do more with your pictures and are willing to take on the learning curve. For this person, you may want to stretch a bit and go beyond the basic camera so you'll have room to expand your abilities.

As you peruse the digital camera ratings you'll also want to note the comments on how the camera handles in different situations, how it feels, are the buttons and menus easy find and easy to navigate. Also, check out the notes in the reviews on what the negative aspects of the camera are and are these negative aspects address in other versions or models.

Also make note of the exposure and metering modes of the camera. In fact, check out how much control you have of the various controls... or how much manual functionality that you desire... or do you just want to point and shoot?

The point is knowledge. Taking the time to become knowledgeable about a digital camera product before you buy is wise investment of your time. Once you have become more self educated through reading the various digital camera ratings you will become more comfortable with your purchasing decision.
