For the average consumer, when it comes to taking pictures the needs are simple; they want cheap digital cameras that take great pictures. As with any type of technology and consumer goods manufacturers provide a wide range of features and benefits that also come with a wide range of price points as well.
As you begin your hunt for a low priced digital camera you will find a plethora of digital camera options for you to select from.
Of course finding a cheap digital camera is relevant to what one's own budget is. What might be considered inexpensive one might be completely out of someone else's price range.
The many manufacturers have done a good job of covering the market with a wide range of price points on their digital cameras. All the major brands are out there... Nikon, Minolta, JVC, Kodak and Fuji and Canon. And they all have prices that can range from anywhere below $100 to several hundred.
Even on the low end of the price spectrum, digital camera still take a very nice quality picture. What you will need to do when you are looking for an inexpensive camera is determine what if any types of features you would like to have (if any) beyond just the point click picture taking. Even then you'll still have to ferret through several models and prices until you are beatified that you have decided on a cheap digital camera that still fits your needs.
As technology becomes more affordable and as the digital camera marketplace continues to become more competitive, you find that even your basic cheap digital camera might come with a few extra have features that you will want to take a look at. Some of the bells and whistles and shooting modes that digital cameras provide are portrait, indoor, panorama stitching, and even underwater... and of course, your basic automatic.
The panoramic stitching is a real cool feature that allows you to take three different photos then merge (stitch) them together to create one fantastic photograph.
This is particularly very useful for those vacations shots you take of some panoramic beautiful view of some landscape that you come across. As for the very basic photographer, it is the megapixels that are a the base of the decision point... the higher the megapixel the sharper the image and the higher the price. So, for your cheap digital camera, for most, it is a matter of how clear and sharp do you want your pictures to be.
If you are truly just getting started and are a bit overwhelmed and overloaded by all the information and options available... even on the cheap digital cameras, take some time to grab a couple of consumer magazines that have reviewed some of the brands and features that you think you would like to have. Doing this will make it much easier for you to do some side by side comparing of the various brands available.
In addition to evaluating the different digital cameras and different choices you have available you'll want to also do a bit of self evaluation as well. You'll want to have a good grasp on what it is you want from your picture taking and what your priorities are. Also, do you plan on or want to expand your knowledge base (lens types, various shooting modes, filters) and get better and more creative with your pictures? If so, you may want to spend a bit more and get a camera that has some features that you can grow into.
Once you've pinned down the types of features that you want in your digital camera and feel that it is going to fit your personal needs for taking pictures, you'll be able to purchase a cheap digital camera that takes very good pictures.
