Wet Carpet

It doesn't matter if you just managed to spill the entire gallon of water over your carpet, whether your tub overflowed because you forgot to turn off the water, or whether you were caught in a flood. The results are the same: wet carpet.

This is not only annoying, but it can also be costly if you find that you need to replace your carpet. And if you happen to have wall-to-wall carpeting then you costs can rise considerably.

To guard against the costs that having wet carpet can bring in, Homeowner's insurance can help. But then again, if you don't have this you can be assured that your costs might be somewhere in the field of astronomical.

 

This is especially true if the water has seeped through your carpet and gotten into the padding underneath your carpet. If this is the case, you might find that even the most powerful wet carpet vacuum will be unable to get the excess water out. In this instance your best bet is to replace the carpet entirely.

Or, if only a small portion of your carpet has been damaged you can think about cutting that piece out and replacing it with another piece. The whole problem that arises however is that of mold and mildew.

If your wet carpet has been left alone for long enough with nothing better to do than to propagate bacteria then you can be assured that mold and mildew will be your bosom companions.

If this is the case then you are most definitely better off replacing your carpet with a newer, dryer one. Otherwise you can face possible health problems, many of which are in the respiratory system. If you have young kids then it is definitely a better idea to get the carpet changed so that unnecessary problems don't occur in the long run.

On the other hand, if your have a wet rug, and not a wet carpet, then your problems and costs just became that much smaller. A wet rug is easier to deal with than a wet carpet simply for the reason that you have the ability to move it around to get it dry.

To get back to your lovely, costly wall-to-wall carpeting, if only a small patch of the carpet has been water logged and you catch it in time you have the advantage.

And any serious damage can be averted.

This can be done by blotting up the water using something like a kitchen towel. You might have to go through the equivalent of an entire roll to accomplish your task, but what's that with having to replace your entire wet carpet?

Just keep blotting away until every last drop of moisture is soaked up into the kitchen towels. And as an added precaution if you keep your air conditioner on, the temperature and the humidity levels low, you might be able to avert disaster.
